Online Tutored CPD

What is an Online Tutored Course?

These in-depth courses are fully flexible and interactive, where you receive weekly lessons and tasks, along with quizzes, tutorials, case studies, further reading articles and full access to an engaging forum for the duration. The course is fully supported by an experienced speaker, who is available for the duration of the course to help answer questions and support your online learning.

Do I have the time to commit to an online tutored course?

It is expected that you should spent 2.5 hours each week on the learning platform, participating in the various tasks, lessons and forum. We know this isn't always possible though, so there are no deadlines or time frames imposed, and the course is flexible to fit in with your other work / life commitments.

New material will be released each Monday morning, throughout the course, but you can access this material whenever you like, and complete the lessons and tasks whenever is convenient for you. You can complete the whole 10 hours of a 4 week CPD on the final Sunday of the course if you wish, or watch a tutorial at 3am - whatever works best for you!

Some courses will have live Q&A sessions or live webinars - you will be given prior notice of dates and times, but if you aren't able to attend - not to worry! All live sessions will be recorded and placed onto the website to view for duration of the course.

Just in case time gets away with you, all the courses will have a 2 week extension following the official course completion date. This 'catch up' time will allow you to finish any uncompleted tasks or lessons. Please note though, that the speaker will not be supporting the course during this time.

How long are the courses?

We have a range of 4 week courses which provide 10 hours of CPD, and more in-depth 6 week courses which provide 15 hours of CPD.

All courses will have a 2 week extension 'catch up' time to allow for flexibility in learning.

How much do the courses cost?

A 4 week course costs £200 and the 6 week courses cost £250. No VAT is chargeable.

How do I pay?

Payment is required at the time of booking, and can be made by debit or credit card (directly on the website) or you have the option of paying via Paypal.

Can my practice book and pay for me?

Yes of course.

Please login using the practice details, and then during checkout please enter the delegate name and email address in the 'additional information' box. The course(s) will then be manually added to the delegate's personal account (or an account set up if there isn't one already registered) and the delegate will then receive an email giving further information on how to access the course. This will normally be within 3 working days of receiving the booking

Can I request an invoice for payment?

If you are booking courses in excess of £200, then you can request an invoice for payment. If you work for a veterinary practice or charity, an invoice can be sent to your accounts department to request payment for you. Please ensure that you have permission to attend the course from your nursing manager, and that your placement has been confirmed by your practice, before you reserve your place and request an invoice from us.

Please email michelle@excelcpd.co.uk with your name, practice address and course title you wish to book. Please also include any additional invoice details, for example, purchase order numbers, invoice address and email contact for your accounts department.

Courses will be reserved for 14 days to allow for the invoice to be paid, but will be released at this point if payment hasn't been received.

Once the payment has been received, the delegate will receive an email from us outlining their course registration, within 3 working days.

How do I access my course?

Please visit 'My Account' -> 'My Courses' and click on the course title. You will also receive an email one week prior to the course giving more detailed information on how to access the course.

Are there time limits or deadlines?

New material will be released each Monday morning, throughout the course, but you can access this material whenever you like, and complete the lessons and tasks whenever is convenient for you

The tutor will be available for the duration of the course to provide learning support and comment on written assignments, so for example, you could submit a week 1 task during week 5, and the tutor would still accept this work and provide feedback for you.

All material will be available for two weeks following the official course end date, to allow for catch up time, however, the speaker will not be available to support your learning during the catch up weeks.

Please ensure you have completed the course by the end of the two week extension, as the course material will be automatically deleted after this.

Notes taken using the 'take notes' app are unaffected though, and will remain in your account permanently, along with your certificate and CPD hours record.

Can I take notes during the course?

Yes of course - we use 'take notes' app which allows you to pause the tutorial and make your own notes, at your leisure, during the course. These notes may then be saved in your 'My Courses' section (permanently), or you can print or download them.

The orange 'Take Notes' button appears just below the video itself, and it opens a small pop-up window on the screen. There are some guided questions to follow the 'Plan, Do, Record, Reflect' for your RCVS Personal Development Records (PDR).

Is there a membership option?

There is the option of an excel annual membership for £1000 per person, which gives unlimited access to everything on the website! So that's unlimited access to all the online tutored courses, eCPD case studies, and also the whole library of eCPD tutorials and course notes.

Following purchase, and once the delegate is logged into their account, all relevant tutorials / courses will be discounted to zero. Please add a course to your basket for £0.00 and checkout in the usual way.

Is course 'registration' the same as course 'confirmation'?

Once you have paid for your course, you will receive a course registration email, outlining the course details and your VAT receipt. At this point, your placement on the course is provisional - we cannot guarantee that there will be enough delegates booking on the course for it to be viable to run. .

As soon as we are able, we will send a course confirmation email - this is to confirm that there are sufficient delegates booked onto the course, and that it is definitely going ahead. The current status of each course may be seen on the course calendar page

What equipment do I need to access the course?

Nothing technical!

Tutorials may be viewed on all Apple and Android computers, laptops, mobiles and tablets. You may need to download the latest Adobe Flash Player which is available free to download.

Does a course count towards my RCVS requirements?

Yes - online tutored courses count towards your RCVS requirements of 45 hours in a 3 year period (average of 15 hours per year).

The 4 week courses provide 10 hours of CPD, and the 6 week courses provide 15 hours of CPD. At the end of the course, a certificate will be automatically provided to download or print.

The website will also keep a record of the courses you have completed, along with a running total of your CPD hours for the current year (Jan-Dec). These logs are permanently available from 'My CPD Record'.

The RCVS does not 'accredit' or 'kitemark' any CPD providers or courses in the UK - please visit the RCVS website for further information.

I'm living outside the UK - can I still attend?

Yes of course you can – when you are directed to checkout, please choose Paypal for payment, and the cost will automatically be converted into your own currency.

Currently, (although it is on my 'to do list'!) we do not have our CPD tutorials accredited with European or International veterinary nursing associations, so the hours earned, may not always be valid towards your personal CPD requirement. Please double check with your own professional body if they will accept UK based CPD.

What happens if I change my employment?

If you paid for the course personally and you change employment, please let us know your new contact details, but otherwise no further amendments are necessary.

If your practice paid for your course before you left their employ, please ask them to contact us if they would like a refund or to transfer the course to a current employee. Otherwise, we will assume that you are still attending the course as booked.

What happens if I need to cancel my place?

We understand that sometimes you may not be able to attend a course that you booked.

If your situation changes more than a month before the course, you may:

1. Transfer your placement to a colleague (free)

2. Cancel completely (20% cancellation fee)

3. Transfer to an alternative course of your choice (free)

If you need to cancel less than a month prior to the course, then a refund or transfer will not be possible, but you are always very welcome to allocate the course to a friend or colleague as a replacement.

What happens if my course is cancelled?

Unfortunately, some courses are more popular than others, and occasionally we do need to cancel courses that only have a few delegates booked. In this scenario, we will give you as much notice as possible (absolute minimum of 28 days), and offer you one of the following options:

1. Receive a full refund

2. Transfer to another course of your choice

3. Transfer the funds to vouchers for online courses or eCPD tutorials

What is your refund policy?

If you purchased a course and didn't have time to complete it within the time frame (plus two week extension time) unfortunately a refund or renewal will not be possible. If you have extenuating circumstances, and evidence can be provided - (eg letter from your internet provider admitting loss of service for several weeks, or a doctors medical note etc) then please contact us for a credit note to be considered, so that you may access the course the next time it runs.

If there are any technical problems with accessing the course, please contact us within the first week of the course, so that we can investigate the matter.

Do you have a mailing list?

Excel CPD would love to keep in touch with all our delegates, but due to recent amendments in the law regarding use of personal data, you will need to positively select which types of advertising you would like to receive from us.

YES PLEASE - KEEP IN TOUCH WITH ME (click here to open a form and select your preferences)

Please Note:

  • All information provided is privately held, and we do not share these details with any third party companies.
  • The information is used by Excel CPD for the purpose of delegate CPD bookings and promoting future courses
  • Marketing takes the form of an annual brochure sent in the post (usually Sept/Oct), along with quarterly email newsletters and occasional special or late offer emails.
  • Telephone numbers are not used for marketing or advertising purposes - phone calls will always directly refer to a course booking.
  • You may contact us on info@excelcpd.co.uk to change your details and marketing preferences at any time. You may also unsubscribe via links at the bottom of email newsletters.
Our full policy regarding data handling may be found on our terms and conditions page.

Do you have a loyalty programme?

Yes we do!

We love rewarding our returning delegates, so we've set up 'Pawprints' - our very own loyalty programme that gives you points on your course bookings

  • Collect one Pawprint point for every pound you spend on the website (excluding VAT) - you can collect points on eCPD tutorials, day attendance courses and online tutored courses.
  • 100 Pawprints = £10
  • Redeem your Pawprints on future course bookings
  • For example:
    • Book one day attendance course (£200+vat) and receive 200 Pawprints
    • 200 Pawprints are equivalent to £20
    • Redeem your £20 and purchase an eCPD tutorial - that's an hour of CPD for FREE!
The Small Print!
  • You must have an account on this website before you can start to collect Pawprints - please register here **You will receive 100 pawprints just for registering on the website! **
  • Pawprints are automatically received on all courses booked online.
  • For courses booked by email, post or telephone, you will need to register an account on the website, and then email info@excelcpd.co.uk to request your points to be added manually. Please provide us with your username and details of which courses you are claiming points on. We will manually add Pawprints to your account within 7 days.
  • Pawprints may only be redeemed against courses on this website, and cannot be redeemed for cash
  • Pawprints cannot be collected on memberships, special offers or discounted courses.
  • The Pawprints loyalty programme starts from 1st September 2018, and any courses booked or attended prior to this date will not be eligible for points.
  • Pawprints rewards individual delegates for their loyalty - it is not intended to be used by practices
  • If your course was booked online for you by your practice, please ask them to transfer your points to you by using this form
  • Pawprints may be redeemed against any course(s) on the website, but you must have sufficient points to pay for the course in full - part payments are not accepted. During the checkout process, you are given the option to 'Pay by Pawprints'
  • Pawprints have no expiry date - you may continue to collect them until you have enough to purchase your desired course.
  • We reserve the right to remove the Pawprints points programme at any time, but if this occurs, notice will be given to delegates to redeem their points by a specific date.
  • You may view your current Pawprint balance at any time by visiting 'My Pawprint Points'

What are CPD Gift Cards?

Gift cards area great way of saving for a course, and provide you with credit to use on the website. They never expire, and can be bought for any monetary value (minimum £1). You may redeem them as part payment against a course, or collect them until you have sufficient funds to purchase your desired course. Buy them for yourself, or give to a friend or colleague.

  • Perfect if you want your practice to buy you ten eCPD tutorials, for example, but you don't want the 30 day time limitations of a membership. Or maybe you prefer the freedom of time - CPD vouchers never expire, so there is no need to redeem within 7 days, unlike the 'buy on behalf of a colleague' system.
OR
  • Just imagine you have £5 left over from your CPD allowance this year - that would normally be wasted and forgotten about, but if you buy a £5 gift card, you can keep this credit to use against another course at a later date....no more wasted CPD budgets! And a fantastic way of saving...

eCPD Tutorials (Videos)

Can I try eCPD tutorials for free?

We have 6 eCPD tutorials available for you to watch for free. There is no catch - they are completely free!! You may view these tutorials by two methods:

1: Registering an account on the website

Please select your chosen tutorial(s) and add to basket. During the checkout process you will be prompted to register an account with the website. Registering with us means that you may access the online learning platform, record you CPD hours and receive a personalised CPD certificate. No payment details are required. Your personal details will not be collected and used by Excel CPD unless you specifically request to be added to our mailing list.

2: Viewing as a guest

We do appreciate that not everyone is comfortable with registering on the website, so you may of course watch the tutorials without doing so. Please be aware though, that the tutorial will be viewed on your internet browser rather than on the online learning platform, and due to this, you won't be able to record your CPD hours or claim a certificate.

How much do the eCPD tutorials cost?

A 60 minute eCPD tutorial costs £20, a 45 minute tutorial £15 and a bite-size 30 minute tutorial costs £10. No VAT is chargeable from 31st July 2019.

Course notes (written by the speaker) are available to accompany the majority of the tutorials, and are included in the price.

A receipt may be printed during the payment process and you will also be emailed a purchase receipt from the website, and a payment receipt from either Paypal or Stripe. Since we are no longer VAT registered, detailed receipts will no longer be available - so please keep a copy of these purchase and payment receipts if you need to claim costs back from your practice.

How do I pay?

Payment is required at the time of booking, and can be made by debit or credit card (directly on the website) or you have the option of paying via Paypal. This will give you immediate access to your course via the 'my courses' section in your account.

Unfortunately, we can no longer request payments via invoicing for eCPD tutorials.

Can my practice book and pay for eCPD tutorials for me?

Yes of course.

Please login using the practice details, and then during checkout please enter the delegate name and email address in the 'additional information' box. The tutorial(s) will then be manually added to the delegate's personal account (or an account set up if there isn't one already registered) and the delegate will then receive an email when the tutorial is ready to view. This will normally be within 24-48 hours of receiving the booking

How do I view my tutorials?

After payment please visit 'My Account' -> 'My Courses' and click on the tutorial you wish to view.

Are there viewing limits?

Following payment (or activation of a CPD voucher) the tutorial(s) and course notes will be immediately available to view from 'My Courses'. They will be available for 7 days before being automatically deleted.

Please ensure you have watched the tutorial and downloaded / printed the course notes within this time-frame, as they cannot be refreshed, and we cannot provide refunds in this situation.

Notes taken using the 'take notes' app are unaffected, and will remain in your account permanently, along with your certificate and CPD hours record.

What are memberships?

Some nurses prefer the freedom of buying individual eCPD tutorials, choosing only the ones that they are interested in, but, if you love CPD or need to catch up with some CPD hours, then a membership would be perfect for you. There is the option of a monthly membership for £50 giving unlimited access to all the tutorials and course notes for 30 days, or annual membership for £300 giving unlimited access for 365 days.

Memberships may be purchased in the same way as eCPD tutorials, and may also be purchased on behalf of a colleague.

Once the delegate is logged into their account, all relevant tutorials / courses will be discounted to zero. Please add a course to your basket for £0.00 and checkout in the usual way - the tutorial will be available to view immediately from 'My Courses', and will automatically expire in 7 days.

What equipment do I need to watch the eCPD tutorials?

Nothing technical!

Tutorials may be viewed on all Apple and Android computers, laptops, mobiles and tablets. You may need to download the latest Adobe Flash Player which is available free to download.

Do the tutorials count towards my RCVS requirements?

Yes - the eCPD tutorials count towards your RCVS requirements of 45 hours in a 3 year period (average of 15 hours per year). The RCVS does not 'accredit' or 'kitemark' any CPD providers or courses in the UK - please visit the RCVS website for further information.

Excel CPD will keep a record of the tutorials you have completed, along with a running total of your CPD hours for the current year (Jan-Dec). These logs are permanently available from 'My CPD Record'.

Can I buy a tutorial and watch it at a later date?

Once you have purchased a tutorial (or activated the gift card, if your practice bought it on your behalf), the tutorial will be immediately available to view from My Courses’.

The tutorial will be available to view for 7 days, and will be automatically deleted after this time. Please ensure you have watched the tutorial and printed the course notes before your course expires.

If you make any personal notes during the tutorial using the ‘take notes’ app, these will be saved, along with your certificate and CPD record for permanent access in My Courses.

If you have not had time to view your tutorial, please do not embarrass either of us by asking for a refund or renewal of time limit, as it won't be possible for us to help you.

I'm living outside the UK - can I still watch the tutorials?

Yes of course you can – when you are directed to checkout, please choose Paypal for payment, and the cost will automatically be converted into your own currency. The tutorial will be available immediately following payment.

As a rough guide, a £20 tutorial will cost approximately 28 euros / 43 Australian dollars / 40 Canadian dollars / 30 US dollars. The monthly membership option at £60 will cost approximately 84 euros / 128 Australian dollars / 120 Canadian dollars / 92 US dollars.

Currently, (although it is on my 'to do list'!) we do not have our CPD tutorials accredited with European or International veterinary nursing associations, so the hours earned, may not always be valid towards your personal CPD requirement. Please double check with your own professional body if they will accept UK based CPD.

Can I take notes during the tutorial?

Yes of course - we use 'take notes' app which allows you to pause the tutorial and make your own notes, at your leisure, during the course. These notes may then be saved in your 'My Courses' section (permanently), or you can print or download them.

The black 'Take Notes' button appears just below the video itself, and it opens a small pop-up window on the screen. There are some guided questions to follow the 'Plan, Do, Record, Reflect' for your RCVS Personal Development Records (PDR).

What is your refund policy?

If you purchased a tutorial and didn't have time to watch it within the allotted 7 days time frame, unfortunately a refund or renewal will not be possible. If you have extenuating circumstances, and evidence can be provided - (eg letter from your internet provider admitting loss of service for several days, or a doctors medical note etc) please contact us for a credit note to be considered, so that you may view the tutorial another time.

If there are any technical problems with receiving CPD vouchers or accessing the tutorials, please contact us within 48 hours of purchase, so that we can investigate the matter. Unfortunately, we will not be able to help with any technical queries raised after the 7 day limit.

If you are unhappy with the tutorial or website for any reason, please do let us know.

If you have not had time to view your tutorial, please do not embarrass either of us by asking for a refund or renewal of time limit, as it won't be possible for us to help you.
