This day will focus on advanced surgical techniques, breaking it down into aims of infection control within theatre, layout, maintenance of the environment, instruments and endoscopes. Preparation of the patient and surgical team, monitoring infection control, hand hygiene and maintaining a high standard of patient care and organisation within theatre.
The course will include case discussion, opportunity for questions and practical demonstrations of gloving and gowning, patient preparation, draping techniques and endoscopy care / cleaning.

• Infection control
• Gloving and gowning
• Draping patients for different procedures
• Patient preparation
• Theatre protocols (SOPS) and organisation methods
• Endoscopy care and cleaning techniques
• Surgical checklists
• Way to minimise/prevent hypothermia
• Planning the procedures for the day
• Recovering patients within theatre
