FIP - An Update
eCPD Tutorial with Beth Thomas
Feline coronavirus (FCoV) is extremely virulent within the cat population; especially within colonies and multi-cat households. A rare mutation of this virus leads to the collection of clinical signs that we know as feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Previously a diagnosis of FIP was often considered terminal, however in the last couple of years treatment options have become available. This has revolutionised the way we are able to care for these cases and is an exciting new step forwards within veterinary medicine.
- Explain the pathophysiology of feline infectious peritonitis
- Understand the treatment options now available to us
- Analyse pathological samples from FIP cats
- Identify high risk populations
- Recognise haematological/biochemical abnormalities associated with FIP
