Blood Gas Analysis

eCPD Case Study with Lizzie Covey

A whistle stop tour of everything you get on your blood gas analysis. By the end of this case study, you'll (hopefully!) be able to determine the acid-base and whether it's a respiratory or metabolic cause, with or without compensation. We discuss oxygenation and carbon dioxide and which one is our ventilation indicator. The four big electrolytes, calcium, potassium, sodium and chloride and the causes of highs and lows, and how we treat those. And lastly - why is our lactate high and our glucose low? What do all of these numbers mean!

This case study include a 40 minute tutorial along with a 20 minute presentation working through clinical cases and some further reading articles
