Anaesthesia for the Acute Abdomen
eCPD Tutorial with Emma Archer
This 60 minute eCPD tutorial will, with the aid of a case study, discuss all aspects of anaesthesia for the acute abdomen including causes, patient preparation and stabilisation, monitoring, nursing support and recovery from anaesthesia. The acute abdomen is a common complaint in small animals and refers to sudden and severe abdominal pain. It can arise from many causes including gastric dilatation and volvulus, ruptured splenic mass or an intestinal foreign body, but general anaesthesia is almost always required to diagnose and treat the cause.
