Module 1
CKD and AKI in Cats with Failing Hearts
Patients with either renal or cardiac disease can be complex and challenging patients to nurse in the veterinary hospital, and this is amplified even further when we have a patient who has some level of disease in both major organ systems simultaneously. We explore this further by recognising how diseases affecting each of these major organ systems influences one another, and how patients might present to our clinic. Diagnostic tests, treatment options and nursing considerations are reviewed, with a focus on the role of the RVN when managing these patients. To summarise the module, we review a case example of Mr Whiskars, where we explore some of the challenges we can see with these patients.
- Pathophysiology of feline congestive heart failure
- Renal physiology and the function
- The RAAS system
- Cardiorenal syndrome
- Diagnostic (laboratory and imaging) techniques used in patients with renal and cardiac disease
- Role of the RVN in patient treatment and monitoring
- Treatment considerations and challenges
- Case study
This module will be available immediately following purchase, with unlimited lifetime access and will provide a total of:
