Description
Course Summary
This 60 minute eCPD tutorial provides an introduction to socialisation in puppies. Appropriate socialisation is absolutely crucial as a basis for preventing many behaviour problems and advice about this must form part of every puppy owner’s education by the veterinary surgery. This tutorial explains what socialisation is, why the timing of this process is so important and how to apply this information to living in the real world. It also discusses the importance of balancing the risks of disease with the risks of restricting puppies’ experiences whilst waiting for vaccine schedules to complete.

Behaviour Veterinary Practice
Clare qualified from the Queens Veterinary School, Cambridge, in 2001. She worked for a couple of years in mixed practice in the Welsh Borders before moving to Warwickshire to a mainly small animal practice. Clare was awarded a post-graduate Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling from the University of Southampton in 2006. This led to her working for Sarah Heath’s practice in Cheshire for 12 months doing referral canine behavioural work. She then went on to set up her own behavioural referral service in Warwickshire and has been working at this part-time whilst caring for her new young family. Clare was admitted as a Full Member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) in October 2008.
