Many of the cases of poisoning that we see in dogs and cats are the result of a small number of common poisons. In this 45 minute eCPD tutorial for vet nurses, we discuss a number of these common poisons including more familiar ones such as chocolate and anticoagulant rodenticides, as well as some more recently identified poisons such as xylitol (dogs), grapes/raisins (dogs) and lilies (cats). Shailen graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1999 and after three years in primary care general veterinary practice commenced a career in Emergency and Critical Care (ECC). Since then he has spent time working in both the referral and the primary care sectors as a primary clinician and as a clinical trainer, supervisor and mentor for numerous colleagues. Since July 2014, Shailen has been working on The Ralph while focusing also on providing ECC education to primary care colleagues in various formats.

The Australian Veterinary Nurse and Technician (AVNAT) Regulatory Council has allocated 0.75 AVNAT CPD points to this continuing education activity.

This course is also recognised by the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Association (NZVNA) as providing 0.75 CPD points.

Please note the following:
