Description

Course Summary

This 70 minute eCPD tutorial, starts by looking at what mentoring actually is, and the functions that mentoring can have within the veterinary practice. We look at the differences between mentoring, buddying systems and teaching, and how we can implement these systems. We will look at learning styles, pastoral care and interviewing, along with how to motivate people and how motivation can effect work output. Lastly we will discuss how to start mentoring in practice and the benefits that it has within the practice.

N icola works as the Nutrition Manager for IVC Evidensia. Nicola graduated from Hartpury College with an honours degree in Equine Science, and subsequently qualified as a veterinary nurse in 2002. Nicola has written for many veterinary publications and textbooks and is the editor of Aspinall’s Complete Textbook of Veterinary Nursing. Nicola is one of the Consultant Editors for The Veterinary Nurse. Nicola has won the BVNA / Blue Cross award for animal welfare, the SQP Veterinary Nurse of the Year and the SQP Nutritional Advisor of the Year. Nicola has recently gained her Master’s degree in Advanced Veterinary Nursing with Glasgow University.

The Australian Veterinary Nurse and Technician (AVNAT) Regulatory Council has allocated 1 AVNAT CPD point to this continuing education activity.

 

This course is also recognised by the New Zealand Veterinary Nursing Association (NZVNA) as providing 1 CPD point.

– maybe most suitable for qualified nurses in general practice approaching a new topic or looking for a refresher course

Intermediate
– maybe most suitable for qualified nurses in general practice along with referral / specialist nurses looking for a refresher course

Advanced
– maybe most suitable for referral / specialist nurses and highly experienced qualified nurses in general practice
