Course Summary

This 60 minute eCPD tutorial provides an overview of the principles of wound healing and how we can manipulate the process to improve wound healing. The stages of wound healing are discussed along with factors which inhibit wound healing. The initial assessment of wounds including involvement of critical structures such as joints and body cavities is covered followed by basic treatment principles and wound closure. Bandages and casts are discussed during a brief separate tutorial, which covers selection of the correct bandaging material to create an appropriate bandage, on a case by case basis, using the five functions of a bandage as a guide.

Jessica attended veterinary school at Purdue University in the States, followed by two years in mixed practice in New England. After this she completed an internship at a referral racehorse hospital in Ocala, Florida and then returned to the UK to complete an equine surgery residency at the University of Bristol. This was followed by time as a surgery lecturer at the University of Glasgow’s veterinary school followed by holding the position of the University Equine Surgeon at the University of Cambridge where she was also the Head of the Equine Hospital. She is currently the surgeon at the Valley Equine Hospital in Lambourn, Berkshire. She has presented veterinary presentations at national and international meetings and has taught numerous CPD courses for other veterinary surgeons on specialised equine subjects. She holds the RCVS certificate in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics), is a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons, and is an RCVS and European recognised specialist in Equine Surgery. Her areas of interest are both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery and investigation of lameness cases

Please note the following:
