Stress contributes to many of the behaviour problems that cats develop. Its prevention is therefore of primary importance if we are to avoid problematic behaviour in the cats that we live with and encounter professionally. Understanding its role is also essential if we are to advise clients when they encounter difficulties with their cats’ behaviour. We also need to be aware of what is involved when approaching a behaviour case, either in the clinic or as behaviour counsellors taking referrals from our own and other veterinary practices.
