It can be daunting to deal with problematic behaviour that is seen when a dog is separated from its owner or owners. There is also a tendency to inappropriately assign all such behaviour problems to the category of separation anxiety. This is not only misleading but can also result in inappropriate and/or ineffective behaviour programmes being implemented.

This 70 minute online tutorial for veterinary nurses will detail a systematic approach to cases of this sort, and is designed to compliment the tutorial on separation anxiety and preventative measures recorded by my colleague Claire Hargrave.

Specific topics to be covered include:

  • Details of what may be seen
  • The motivations, other than anxiety related to the loss of an attachment figure, that are associated with conditions of this sort
  • Gathering and examining the evidence in order to reach an accurate diagnosis with a number of potential pitfalls highlighted

This CPD tutorial is worth 70 minutes towards your RCVS requirements.
